Our Story

In Florence, leatherwork was born as a craft, not as an industry.

As early as the Middle Ages, the Florentine guilds governed quality, materials and the handing down of craft knowledge.

Among them, the Guild of Tanners and Galigai, recorded from 1282, brought together the craftsmen of leather, hide and finishing: experts in the material, its limits, its timing and its natural imperfections.

GALIGAI is rooted in this continuity, not as a historical re-enactment but as a living heritage.

We only use hides that are a by-product of the food industry, and we tan them following the knowledge and tradition of vegetable tanning. What identity are we after? Respect for the full grain, which we enhance without solvents or the chemicals too often used for artificial corrections.

Our full grain tells of time, of changing seasons, of the marks of a life lived. Variations in grain, scratches and scars are not erased: they are part of the object and its value. The true identity of one-of-a-kind pieces.

Every piece is the result of a conscious craft supply chain: selected materials, slow processes, shared responsibility. Nothing is left to chance. Nothing is rushed.

Our leather goods do not follow trends. They are made to last, to be used, marked and handed down.

Because real leather does not age: it tells a story.
